My hometown, Pio V. Corpus, is situated at the southeastern tip of the island of Masbate -- about a hundred kilometers from the capital Masbate City. The town is originally called Limbuhan. The name was derived from the Visayan word "Limbu" which means Whirlwind.

According to my late grandfather, the frequent occurrence of whirlwinds in the area has led the early settlers to call the place Limbuhan to describe or associate the place with the weather phenomenon. In English, Limbuhan literally means ‘a place where there are whirlwinds’.

When proclaimed as a town in 1951, Limbuhan was renamed Pio V. Corpus in honor of the late Masbate congressman Don Pio V. Corpus. Daniel Señoron became the first mayor of the town.

Recognition:
The town Pio V. Corpus is recognized as the Cleanest Town in the whole province of Masbate.

The town is home to many successful professionals who are now spread throughout the country and throughout the world. All of them have a common root --- they are all products of MASBATE SOUTHEASTERN INSTITUTE, my alma mater.

Tourist attraction:
Balangingi Island --- an island endowed with crystal-white beach sand and crystal-clear water. Considered as a virgin island, its natural periphery, a natural habitat of different species of marine life, is protected by DENR. The island which faces the Poblacion Pio V. Corpus is 15 minutes away by boat.
